Mayor of Crawley - Vent-AxiaVent-Axia presented a cheque to The Worshipful, the Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Raj Sharma on Tuesday 9th May to support the Mayor’s charity for 2016/17, Crawley Community Youth Service. The cheque was presented by Jenny Smith, Marketing Manager of Vent-Axia in the Mayor's parlour in Town Hall, The Boulevard, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 1UZ.

Vent-Axia chose to support Crawley Community Youth Service as its charity for its 80th anniversary year, 2016. To raise funds for this local charity, the company held a Christmas raffle, netting over £300 for the Service. Crawley Community Youth Service aims to encourage young people to be positive role models who can create engaged vibrant and equal communities throughout Crawley. It provides clubs for young people in Bewbush, Gossops Green and Langley Green.

“Vent-Axia is delighted to support Crawley Community Youth Service and help local young people,” said Jenny Smith, Marketing Manager of Vent-Axia. “We were keen to support our local community when we picked our charity for the year and the Service is a great example of bringing the community together and empowering young people. We are delighted to be able to work alongside the Mayor in supporting their work.”

“I’ve been working with the youth of Crawley for 25 years and so this charity is very close to my heart” explained The Worshipful, the Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Raj Sharma. “I am so pleased to accept the cheque on behalf of the charity and I know this money will go directly to helping Crawley’s young people. I am very passionate about youth work and these funds will help provide safe, encouraging spaces to help our young people reach their full potential.”

This fundraising formed part of Vent-Axia’s charity work to mark its 80th anniversary year. In addition, the company launched it’s ’80 for 80’ initiative which helped staff support their chosen charities throughout this milestone year. Vent-Axia donated £80 to each charity put forward by a member of staff, helping organisations ranging from national health charities to a local Scout group. In total, with the Mayor's charity and the ‘80 for 80’ initiative, £1027.97 was raised during Vent-Axia’s 80th Anniversary year for charity.

Charities that have benefited from the initiative include men’s health charity Movember. Sales Support Manager, Robert Struzik-Forrester, chose to raise funds for the charity having been diagnosed with, and then successfully treated for, prostate cancer in June 2014. Another staff member who was keen to benefit from the ‘80 for 80’ initiative was Jim Graham who chose to support the Great North Air Ambulance after they saved his brother in law’s life earlier in 2016.
